Reheating Holiday Leftovers

The holidays are over, but the delicious food lingers on. Reheating leftovers can be tricky, but with these tips, you can ensure your holiday feast tastes just as good as the first time around.

General Reheating Tips:

  • Small Portions: Reheat small portions at a time to prevent overcooking.
  • Low and Slow: Use low heat to avoid drying out your food.
  • Cover: Cover your food while reheating to retain moisture.

Reheating Specific Dishes:

Cajun Fried Turkey:

  • Oven: Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Place turkey in a roasting pan and cover loosely with foil. Reheat for 15-20 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  • Microwave: Place turkey in a microwave-safe dish and cover. Reheat on low power in 2-minute intervals, stirring occasionally, until heated through.

Mashed Potatoes & Macaroni and Cheese:

  • Stovetop: Add a splash of milk or cream and heat over low heat, stirring frequently, until warmed through.
  • Microwave: Place in a microwave-safe dish and cover. Reheat on high power in 1-minute intervals, stirring occasionally, until heated through.

Gravy:

  • Stovetop: Heat gravy in a saucepan over low heat, stirring occasionally, until warmed through. Avoid boiling, as this can cause the gravy to separate.

Stuffing:

  • Oven: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Place stuffing in a baking dish and cover with foil. Reheat for 20-25 minutes, or until heated through.
  • Microwave: Place stuffing in a microwave-safe dish and cover. Reheat on high power in 1-minute intervals, stirring occasionally, until heated through.

Prime Rib:

  • Slice: Slice the prime rib into individual portions.
  • Microwave: Place the slices in a microwave-safe dish with a few tablespoons of beef broth or leftover au jus. Cover the dish and microwave on high power in 30-second intervals, stirring occasionally, until heated through.
  • Oven: Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C). Wrap the leftover prime rib in aluminum foil. Place the wrapped prime rib in the preheated oven. Reheat for approximately 20-30 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 140°F (60°C).
  • Transfer: Transfer the reheated slices to a serving dish immediately to prevent overcooking.

Thank you for choosing White Wine And Butter to be a part of your holiday celebration.
